The children we serve come from some of the most impoverished areas in the world...places where food is scarce, and survival is a daily struggle. Education, something many of us take for granted, is not just difficult to access...it’s often an unattainable dream.
Our founder, Elsa Christensen, is from the Dominican Republic and has witnessed these struggles firsthand. She has seen children walk to school barefoot, carrying their books in plastic grocery bags because they cannot afford a backpack. She has seen students writing on scraps of paper, using broken pencils because they don’t have the most basic supplies needed to learn. For these children, education is their only hope of escaping the cycle of poverty, yet they are denied the very tools that make learning possible.
Can you imagine sending your child to school without a pencil or a notebook? Can you picture a classroom where eager young minds have the desire to learn but lack the resources to do so? These children are not just facing poverty...they are facing a future without opportunities. They live in communities where families work tirelessly yet struggle to afford even the most essential school supplies.
We believe this is heartbreaking. But more importantly, we believe we can make a difference.
We are here to bring hope.
Education is the foundation for a better future, and by providing essential school supplies, we are giving these children the tools they need to learn, grow, and pursue their dreams. A backpack, a notebook, pencils, and pens...small things that mean the world to a child who has nothing. These supplies are not just materials; they are a symbol of possibility, a lifeline to a brighter future.
Beyond school supplies, we provide other essentials as resources allow, ensuring that these children have not just what they need to survive, but what they need to thrive.
But we can’t do this alone. We need your help.
Together, we can replace hopelessness with opportunity. We can give these children the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty and build a future filled with promise.
Will you join us in making a difference?
The mission of 4 A Better Tomorrow (4ABT) is to empower individuals in the fight against global poverty through education. Each year, our dedicated volunteers travel to some of the most impoverished regions of the Dominican Republic, delivering essential educational supplies, toiletries, and hygiene products to families in need. Working closely with community leaders, we identify those facing the greatest hardships and establish comprehensive educational programs designed to support both children and their parents.
In June 2025, we will return to the Province Independencia, with a clear objective: to equip 450 children and their families with the critical educational resources needed to access schooling and expand their learning opportunities. We believe that every child deserves not only access to education but also the tools necessary to succeed and build a brighter future.
Since its inception, 4ABT has grown into a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, specializing in three core areas:
Our commitment goes beyond immediate relief...we focus on sustainable solutions that address the root causes of poverty, fostering long-term development and meaningful change in the communities we serve.
Our team is a dedicated group of professionals and volunteers united by a shared passion for making a meaningful difference in the world. Each year, we travel to the most underserved areas of the Dominican Republic to serve communities in need. We work tirelessly to ensure our programs and services truly address the needs of those we are privileged to serve.
